Considering the lack of response on the issues raised in the past few months, I can only conclude that Chronograf is abandoned? If so, is there anyone from influxdata who’s willing to confirm this? This would give me a solid reason to complete the transition from Chronograf to Grafana.

The issue with typing a colon has been resolved: fix: avoid error on typing colon by R290 · Pull Request #6056 · influxdata/chronograf · GitHub. The fix is now available in the Chronograf nightly which can be downloaded here: Downloads (click " Are you interested in InfluxDB 1.x Open Source?").
