Problem with retention policy
Hello
I am a newbie to InfluxDB and to this forum. A while ago I created my first database and set a retention policy.
When I did a “show retention policy” today I got to see the following:
Should I leave that autogen-retention or can it be removed and how should I do this?
I hope someone can help me with that beginner question.
Thanks
Hervé
Hello @Herve_Tavernier,
Welcome!
First question I have, is why as a beginner have you decided to use 1.x instead of 2.x? Just curious.
Whether or not you want leave that autogen retention policy is entirely up to you. It depends entirely on your ingest rate, volume, and HW.
This blog post might help you:
Why do you think you should remove it? What are you doing with InfluxDB?
Hello Anaisdg
Hello
I have installed InfluxDB to a Raspberry Pi 4 - 4GB. I was not aware that I am using InfluxDB 1.x because I simply followed a installation manual that I found on the internet.
What I do is save data from my weather station in the database and then convert it into graphs with Grafana. In the beginning I had not set a separate retention policy, but afterwards I decided to keep my data for a maximum of 1 year, hence the new setting of a rentention policy. I thought that the autogen retention policy might be redundant in addition to the one I set. Hence my question to possibly delete the autogen and if that should be done how that should be done.
You will certainly notice that I am a real newcomer in this field. I hope you can still give me some useful tips.
Thanks
Hervé
