I have a dashboard with four charts. All have worked correctly for months. But a few days ago, the scatter chart stopped displaying points. The data supplying this chart are OK because I checked them in a simple table view. I see the data move when I move the cursor over the chart, and pop-ups with x and y values appear, but there are no points on the graph. I didn’t change the graph’s configuration. So what happened, and how do I restore the visibility of points on the graph?
What tool are you using for visualization? Is this in an InfluxDB cloud offering, or are you using a different piece of software (i.e. Grafana) to handle this?
I’m using the InfluxDB scatter chart. As I said, it worked for several months and then stopped to display graph for an unknown reason.
I’m using the InfluxDB 2.x.
Same issue here. InfluxDB v2.9.1.
I’ve forwarded this along to the InfluxDB 2 team and they’re looking into it. We didn’t push any updates, so the suspicion is that a browser update broke this functionality, and we’ll see if we can figure that out.
For either/both of you, the engineering team has a couple questions that would be super helpful to have answered:
What browser and version are you on? Does the chart work in a different browser (e.g. Firefox or Safari)?
Can you export the cell’s JSON (gear menu → Configure) or share the query + viz settings?
If you right-click the empty chart → Inspect Element, is there a <canvas class="giraffe-layer scatter"> element anywhere in there, and what are its width/height?
I’m using Google Chrome (Version 153.0.8010.48, 64-bit, official build), but I also tested it in Microsoft Edge, and the behavior was the same.
One important detail: the issue only occurs with some queries, involving specific buckets. There are buckets where the visualization in scatter mode works normally.
<div class="giraffe-layers" style="position: absolute; inset: 0px;">
<canvas class="giraffe-layer scatter" data-testid="giraffe-layer--scatter" width="1629" height="271" style="position: absolute; width: 2173px; height: 362.5px;"></canvas>
</div>
Microsoft Edge is up to date.
Version 154.0.4258.37 (Official build) (64-bit)
It worked for about three months. It stoped for an unknown reason.
Pleased to report we’ve got a fix implemented, and it will be coming out with version 2.10. Expect that to be out sometime in the coming weeks.
