Telegraf Clinic #1 - Open invitation 2021/08/12 17:00 GMT

We’ve just wrapped our first Telegraf Clinic, here’s a brief write up.

From the InfluxData side we had Mya, Alex, Samantha and myself.
We were joined by Colin and Martyn who both had plenty of questions.

Colin is using Telegraf on a Raspberry Pi 4. They’re just getting started and needed some help clarifying how the configuration for Telegraf is formatted, and where it should be located. We also discussed how Telegraf can be run manually, or automatically, on system start, and how to manage that.

Martyn has been using Telegraf on their home lab for years, and is trialling it in their workplace. They’re running Telegraf on a variety of Windows hosts, each running different services. We discussed ways to deploy the different configuration files to appropriate hosts in the estate selectively. There were some misconceptions about the performance of Telegraf reading configuration files, which was cleared up. We also discussed how to securely store credentials used by Telegraf when connecting to databases - for example MySQL.

I’d like to thank Colin and Martyn for joining and bringing their questions to our first Telegraf Clinic. It was great for us to ‘meet’ users, and understand and work through their problems in a relaxed environment.

It was also useful for us to understand where gaps exist in our tutorials & documentation, which we’ve noted and will address.

We’re looking forward to the next Telegraf Clinic, which will be in a month. More details, nearer the time!
