Logging format 1.5?

I don’t get it, if you don’t have any experience with coding logging/levels why don’t look at some other databases?
Spot the differences, if you find them I have for you special super patches ‘Earned First researcher’, ‘Earned Einstein’, ‘Earned Syslog super expert’ (oh and influxdb is sort of testing here, we have a lot more data/db’s in the others).

Despite the poor tone of your post, I’ll attempt to engage here. In the future, please be respectful of everyone on this community including the wonderful people that create free software for you to use.

I’m trying to read through your snark and what I interpret from your post is that the logging in InfluxDB is too verbose. Is that correct? It would help if you give specific requests about what you’d like to see changed. Parts of the log can be turned on and off through configuration based on user preference.

If you want to write up a reply that is a bit more detailed about what you’re seeing that you would like not to see, or otherwise, please do so and we’ll be happy to have a conversation with you and listen.

Paul,

I agree, it is good that people are creating this and putting time in it for all to use.

But that doesn’t necessarily mean, you have to be glad with whatever is being produced. I think you can be harsh sometimes, because people should know something went bad, so next time they can be more careful.
There is for a reason a saying ‘easy going doctors create smelly wounds’.
You are also not telling a dentist he is wonderful and lovely if he offers brain surgery (for free) on the weekend.

What in my opinion is wrong (in this case, and could have been prevent with a better approach), is that your default logging changed to field=value field=value field=value (and there is no option to switch it back)

Why? In 1.3 it was sort of like mysql, postgres. Most environments I presume are logging to syslog. If you want do some key value storing make a separate log format option for it. But stick with the default that has been chosen. People running LTS versions like things to stay as much as possible to the default.
I am just testing with influxdb, so I don’t really know to much about it, and thus cannot advice on how this should be done. But it indeed looks like quite verbose for just the info logging level and starting the db. You can also decide to maintain an LTS repo.
