Disk IO and memory usage on application start

I am curious why on application start InfluxDB will read TSM and TSL files. I have the index-version set to “tsi1” and rebuilt all my indexes using influx_inspect buildtsi. I assumed the only the TSL files would be read. This behavior will immediately use all 32GB of memory provisioned.

I am running 1.7.6. My databases were created in version 1.3.x and have been regularly upgraded with newer releases.
